Diversity: vital in music and the workplace

The "Meet Me at the Crossroad" lecture, part of the series called "Hidden in Plain View: Meanings in American Music”, taught by renowned jazz musician Wynton Marsalis at Harvard University, brings the theme of diversity in the third article. Marsalis interconnected diverse musical styles from the American scene, such as blues, folk music, gospel, popular music, redneck, bluegrass, country western and jazz, highlighting the similarities and differences between them and showing how they supplement each other.

With music as a backdrop, the jazz musician managed to transport his listeners to different universes. This experience enabled reflections on how differences can be converged, likewise in the corporate world, where diversity also plays a vital role. Regardless of gender, age, race, social class and other categories, human beings have shown the ability to coexist and harmonize even in the organizational environment.

The ability to live with diversity and build on it transforms the corporate world. We can reflect on how this diversity in companies promotes individual and collective ability, capable of receiving mutual respect and receiving diverse contributions.
